NEW MUSIC: 100% BLACK

I realize that it's been an embarrassing length of time since LL's last post, but I hope that changes in the coming months. Anyhow, there is no other entry that would make up for 7 months of lost time like this one. 100% Black.

100% Black is from Binghamton, NY. I've been eagerly awaiting to getting my hands on this record ever since I heard they were doing a full-length. Turn it up.

As a side note: I recommend you check out Wand's new record released on Drag City. I've been digging it since seeing them at Motorco in Durham, NC on Sunday with Ty Segall.

LISTEN: BARS OF GOLD

BARS OF GOLD (Ferndale, MI) released their first album Of Gold in August 2010, which has been on regular rotation in my Toyota Corolla for the last three years. Catching wind of their upcoming release Wheels on Bellyache Records just made my day. Consisting of four-parts Wildcatting, two-parts Bear vs Shark, BARS OF GOLD hits the spot. Enjoy the single Coffee with Pele, and pick up a copy of Wheels when it's released on Oct. 28.

FRESH TUNES: DEL PAXTON (BUFFALO, NY)

Del Paxton (ex. Longitude, Beach Parade) is a new band comprised of three gents living in Buffalo, NY. DP's formation is a project that I've been anxiously awaiting for some time now. When I listen this EP, I hear three dear friends who draw heavy influence from early-2000s indie rock, capitalizing on a youthful energy that many (most) other indie rock bands severely lack. This is a heartfelt band. After listening to these tracks for the first time, there was a clearly painted picture in my mind -- a jam packed bar full of beer drinking friends, grooving and holding on to every lyric by screaming along to each and every word.

Do yourself a favor and check out their new 5 track release -- consider downloading the release and go to a show. BUFFAblog also has some thoughts on the release.

SOUNDS OF THE TRIANGLE: PHIL COOK & TOW3RS

Phil Cook's name has been popping up all over the Triangle since moving here a year and a half ago, but I have yet to see him perform. Last night I got to catch several songs at Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, NC. I'm hooked. I'm a sucker for roots influences blues. Phil Cook's "Hungry Mother Blues" started my Saturday off on the right "feat". This is a must listen.

I first saw T0W3RS in Raleigh, NC at one of the "Local Band, Local Beer" shows that Tir Na Nog has quite frequently on Thursday nights. T0W3RS is a young group of musician who, if they continue on this path, with gain a strong following in this region. Although their live set/sound could improve, their most recent release "Wyatt" is a short collection of catchy-ass rock songs seeming to drawing from both 70's and contemporary rock and pop. Be sure to dig on "Bounty".

NEW SINGLE: THE SEA AROUND US "BULL FROM THE SEA"

Ricardo Lagomasino (Joe Lally, Altamira, Capillary Action) is one of the most talented and sincere drummers I've had the opportunity to shared the stage with throughout my career. I've admired his technique(s) since being introduced to his work close to 5 years ago at No Radio Records in Ithaca, NY. Since then, I've become more and more intrigued by the projects he contributes in. The Sea Around Us is certainly no exception. This might just be the sweetest cup of tea yet. It seems that there is something extremely valuable that these four guys share.

I first saw The Sea Around Us in Philly at Bookspace while on tour with Summer People in 2010.  Since that show, I've consistently been listening to their first self-titled EP release. Now I've been anxiously awaiting the release of their new EP. I'm floored by this single! I need it in hand. Download this single, and turn it up load. You'll get the chills. TSAU, please come hang out in Durham, NC as soon as possible. It is the #BullCity afterall.

PILE: NEW FULL LENGTH/ RALEIGH SHOW

After hearing Pile's new single "Prom Song" from their new full-length "dripping" released by Exploding in Sound, this Boston-based quartet  instantly grabbed my attention. I've anxiously awaited the opportunity to hear the rest of the tracks on the album. They have finally posted them.

Now I'm certainly looking forward to their performance in Raleigh, NC @ Slim's Downtown on November 3rd. Won't you join me?
